Birds, The

The birds are
creaky and nervous ángeles with fragile bones made of fingernails.

Hitchcock feared that their beaks could blind him brutally on an abnormally yellow English prairie

Borges hoped that the oxygen expelled by their wings would give him the vision back, like a Christian bard who recovers the grace.

One solar morning of 1260 King Alfonso X "The Wise" -who collected penises and beaks of rare birds- paid 200 Maravedis of silver for a beak of dodo and a penis of ostrich, purchased from two mysterious Ethiopian merchants who transported extravagant animals and spice in caravan through Castile.

The animals -most Afrycan and Azian- were affected by the weather of Castile in January and died, the caravan started stinking and a group of rustic agricultors burned the Ethiopians alive.

King Alfonso (who was also called "The Astrologer") predicted a disaster sent from the planets of God as punishment for this atrocity, which effectively happened:

a brutal earthquake cracked Magerit in two, the town, that was a filthy cloaca, got cut like a bife de chorizo and it was invaded by bears and monsters.

Precisely a bear devoured the wife of Alfonso: Queen Consort Violant of Aragon.

And one person told me that the birds, the super-heavy birds, live only for some hours.... abysmal and psychological anymals the birds are, hardened like corneous cuticles.
