Furious story of the ₳

 


Back in the 80s, I remember, we had a strange currency
oh boy, the president changed the currency.


He was obsessed with the south and the ice, the Patagonia, a place where no one lives, so he established the Austral, whose symbol was this:

Austral, for Patagonia and for ice:

in one of his discourses he said: "we have to go to the south, to the cold and to the sea"

and created the Austral.

During 1985, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 and even, if I remember correctly, 1991, we had the ₳

Crazy, isn't it?
What currency is that?

It's the Austral.


The inflation pulverized the Austral Plan (as it was called), and in the end you needed ₳ 17,000,000 to buy 1 kilo of potatoes.

Same as the hyper-inflation of Germany during the Weimar Republic, in which the money was so worthless that it was used to fuel the fire, or for the kids to play.


But is dead, is dead, the ₳ustral is dead!
